OK everybody.... here we go. I'm going to try
and document just about everything I (we) do to this airplane. My
friend Ty Connel and I are building RV-7a's together in the same
garage. I ordered my tail kit and it came in about Early December.
Ty and I inventoried the kit on the 12th of Dec and started
construction of my tail kit at that time. Ty and I like building two
airplanes together... the second one goes really fast after you do
the first one. Some of us call it the Air Force Method. you go look
at the airplane next to yours and do the same.
The inventory is complete! And the Instructions to
assemble the airplane are updated.

ok...ok.. I know.. it's not the best pic but I took
it with my IPhone under low-light conditions
First real progress....

The picture above is me breaking the edges of the
rear spar reinforcements so they dont ride up on the
sides.
This pic is of the rear spar clecoed together... the
pneumatic cleco tool is on the way.... End of Progress for 12 Dec
2007

Here is a pic of my building partner Ty Connel... he
is checking to see if the reinforcements are riding up on the rear
spar.....

So far I've spent 1.5 hrs on Inventory and about 1
hr of work on the tail.
I've purchased some PPG dx 330 cleaner and the PPG
1791/1792 primer for the tail to see how it works. I hope we spray
it soon....
Dec 13th 2007...
The doublers on the rear spar were hit with a
scotchbright wheel and now neither of them ride up on the outer spar
metal. I also rounded off the edges and removed the old finish on
the metal. 2 hrs
There are two of these pieces...

The next session was on Dec 19th 2007. In this
session Ty and I helped each other with the sheetmetal work
etc...
I finished taking the layer of "crap" off of
the pieces you see above this line and doing some match hole
drilling and clecoing the rear spar together and assembling the rear
spar center Horizontal Stab hinge.

I did lots of match hole drilling and I got to use
my new pneumatic cleco gun.. IT WAS GREAT!!!!!!!!!!
if YOU are reading this, and your order for a tail
kit is not in the mail....... you may need to ask yourself why
not..... it's very easy to build.... and you get 200 mph for 35-120k
instead of 550k.
Go order the Vans information kit and then order the
tools from Avery, the tail from Vans... and join Doug Reeve's Vans
Forums... the best move you'll ever make.
Best
